When an unfortunate event happens around Martel (say a window is broken, chairs are thrown off the sundeck, a fight ensues, a private party gets out of hand, RUPD comes by, etc), the Martel College Court steps in to ensure Martel issues get resolved internally before going to SJP. Martel is a beautiful place filled with wonderful people, so we have a Court in place to ensure that when we do kick back, we have the freedom to throw parties and enjoy being in college without having to worry as much. Composed of a Chief Justice (CJ) an Associate Justice, and 5 Justices, the Court tries to uphold the Code of Student Conduct by providing security during public and private parties, making sure all Martelians know what constitutes a violation of the Code, educating Martelians on the Alcohol policy, charging Martelians on damages, holding trials for disputed charges, etc.
The Court also takes a preventative approach with monthly Guys and Girls Nights hosted by the Justices where we’ll have food, music, games, and good conversation.
We are your friends, and we’re really just here to make sure everyone’s safe and happy.
Well, what’s a College Court?
The Chief Justice and Justices are here to keep order in Martel. They are especially active during Martel’s public parties and should be the first people you contact when in the presence of unruly behavior. Be sure to always contact the Chief Justice, Justin Cho, first at 559.999.9312
